Significant snowfall expected in Sierra starting Tuesday

Mother Nature is bringing both tricks and treats this week.

Mild weather is expected to stick around the Reno-Sparks area for the duration of Halloween but big changes are on the way.
Starting Tuesday, gusty winds are expected to pick up especially for wind-prone areas. Gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour are expected. Mountain snowfall and valley rain are expected to start falling Tuesday morning.
Three to five inches of snow is expected above 5,500 feet and five inches to a foot expected above 7,000 feet.
The National Weather Service in Reno said snow could eat hit valley floor on Wednesday morning. Snow could linger in the higher elevations through Thursday.
Cooler temps and possible breezy conditions are expected through the weekend.
