Matt Gaetz defeats Gay Valimont in race for Florida District 1 Congressional seat

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) — Matt Gaetz defeated Gay Valimont Tuesday to win the race for the Florida District 1 Congressional seat.

Gaetz, a Republican, earned 66% of the vote, while Valimont, a Democrat, earned 34 %, according to Associated Press.

Gaetz was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016. He won re-election in 2018, 2020 and 2022.
