Matt Monroe

Matt was born and raised on Long Island, NY. It was there that he had his first encounters with extreme weather. Hurricane Belle struck the island in 1976. Matt vividly remembers huddling in a hallway with his family while the house shook from the ferocious winds. In 1985, the eye of Hurricane Gloria passed right over Matt's house. When the trees snapped, they sounded like gunshots. Those hurricanes and countless other thunderstorms and blizzards made quite an impression on Matt.

But it wasn't until college when Matt married his love of weather with television news. He met a local TV meteorologist at a Clemson baseball game. An invitation was extended to tour the local TV station in Greenville, SC. Matt took him up on the offer, and a career was born. After earning a B.S. in Marketing from Clemson, Matt enrolled in Mississippi State's nationally renowned Broadcast Meteorology Program. He graduated and went on to obtain his Television Seal of Approval from The American Meteorological Society. Matt has covered severe storms and hurricanes in the southeast, tornadoes in the Midwest, and every weather event imaginable across the entire country while doing national weather for WeatherNation TV. But his favorite weather is still sunshine and 75 degrees!

When Matt is not tracking storms and delivering accurate forecasts at KRNV, you can often find him exercising at one of the many great hiking spots in the Reno/Tahoe area. His favorite hobby is traveling. He lives by the creed, "I'll go anywhere once!" He's been to all 50 states, and 48 state capitals. He's only missing Juneau, AK and Albany, NY... from his home state! Matt tried to get to Albany in 2011, but flooding from Hurricane Irene stopped him. He vows to try again someday.
