The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died while in law enforcement custody on Nov. 10.

Peni M. Valu, 29, was incarcerated at the Washoe County Jail when he reported to deputies that he was experiencing a medical event. He was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center and died several hours later. He is believed to have been homeless.

The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation and laboratory testing.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is handling the law enforcement investigation for this case.
