The National Weather Service in Reno says the atmospheric river is taking shape over the Pacific Ocean as of Monday morning. The latest models suggest the storm is headed in a slight southward shift meaning the areas in the eastern Sierra and south of Highway 50 in northern Nevada have the best chances for overperforming rain and snow totals. The NWS said despite the slight directional shift, nobody should let their guards down because it doesn't take much rain or snow to see comparable impacts to the last storm including localized flooding.
