RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — A developer is proposing to build an 88-acre commercial project on the southwestcorner of Mt. Rose Highway and S. Virginia St.
The property was previously owned by Station Casinos, which planned to build the Mt. Rose Station Hotel and Casino on the land in the 2000s.
City records show Panattoni Development Company now intends to develop the land and add the infrastructure to support a large business park. The development might also include 'retail, office and/or multifamily' (housing), according to the developer's application.
Councilwoman Naomi Duerr, who represents the south Reno area, said she will be following the project closely through the process. She's concerned about moving an existing drainageway, impacts to plants and animals and traffic patterns there.
The development will be up for discussion at the Reno Planning Commission meeting on April 7, Duerr said.
People wanting to learn more are encouraged to participate in a virtual town hall set for Monday, March 29 at 5:30 p.m.
A spokesperson for Panattoni Development Company did not comment on the project, since the possible land sale is still pending.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the current plans would disturb the habitat of an endangered plant. While initial plans would've altered 2 acres of the Steamboat buckwheat habitat, developers submitted an updated plan that 'avoids all of the existing Steamboat buckwheat habitat.'
