If you're looking to buy a home in the Reno-Sparks area, now is a good time for you to look around, according to experts in the community.

"This is a great time to look because there's less competition than if you get out in Spring, and we get some of the fury that we have had in past Springs. You're up against twelve other offers and you have to write significantly over asking in order to even get an offer accepted," said Justin Hertz, a Realtor with Dickson Realty.

Buyers don't typically like the uncertainty associated with elections, but now that election season is over, traffic is starting to pick back up.

"It's very typical that for the two or three months leading to the election, the market get very crickety and people are sitting on the fence and they just generally don't like uncertainty. So, now that we're past that, the phone has starting ringing again, activity is starting to happen again."

In the Reno-Sparks area, the median price for a home currently sits around $579,000.

Along with the election, interest rates also play a roll in demand.

Stephanie Hanna is a local Mortgage Advisor with Omega Mortgage group.

"I mean, the good thing is since the election, we have seen our interest rates stabilize. So, we've been seeing them creep higher since about the middle of September. But in the last two weeks, we've seen them remain pretty stable, which is good for buyers who are out there looking right now," said Hanna.

For home-hunters looking to buy in the future, Hanna said she's optimistic for the Reno-Sparks housing market in 2025.

"I remain optimistic about 2025. We've seen high interest rates now for a couple of years, and I think buyers are becoming acclimated to these rates. They understand that maybe it's the new normal for a little bit," said Hanna.

Justin Hertz echoed Hanna's remarks with similar optimism for the housing market next year.

"I'm just very optimistic about the coming year. I thing that, you know, it's nice that we're away from the election... that set aside... that takes that uncertainty out. And I think that you're going to see a lot more people coming off the fence, both buyers and sellers. And so, I think that 2025 is going to be terrific," said Hertz.
