WASHINGTON (TNND) — Beauty retailer Sephora on Tuesday shot down rumors it has donated as a company to President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign.
Some social media users claimed this week Sephora donated to the Trump campaign. One on TikTok with the handle @karressmarie4 posted a video listing 14 companies she said provided money for the president-elect.
Sephora made “BIG BIG BIG DONATIONS!!” according to the user.
“I HOPE we all understand the assignment for this Christmas season!” the video’s captions read.
A spokesperson for Sephora told The National News Desk (TNND) Tuesday there is "incorrect information" circulating online about "company donations."
"Sephora does not make corporate donations to political candidates. Sephora’s mission is to create a welcoming beauty shopping experience for all," the spokesperson said.
Data from Open Secrets, an organization that publishes information on campaign contributions and lobbying, shows that people in LVMH, Sephora’s parent company, donated $318 to Trump. The Federal Election Campaign Act prohibits corporations from making contributions in connection to federal elections.
In another TikTok video, @karressmarie4 featured a comment reading, “@Walmart @Ace Hardware @Dollar General @The Home Depot @sephora in our community taking our money but supporting taking away our rights.” She mouthed the lyrics, “real gangsters move in silence.”
The user also appeared to criticize people who still shopped at Sephora following her first video. She claimed the company had “RECORD BREAKING PROFITS” last year with “your money” before saying, “YOU STILL WANT TO SHOP THERE?”
In a fourth video, @karressmarie4 said “oh f***ing well” if she made a mistake “connecting the dots."
