The Washoe County Board of County Commissioners voted to certify the Canvass of the Vote at a special meeting today, marking the final step in the county’s role in the 2024 General Election process before the State of Nevada can finalize the statewide results.
The canvass is an important administrative procedure that verifies and affirms the election results. Deputy Registrar of Voters Andrew McDonald presented a summary of the election outcomes, as well as a report on the audit process, and identify any errors that were discovered.
The General Election, held on November 5, saw a high voter turnout, with 79 percent of eligible voters participating. Of those who voted, 51 percent cast their ballots in person, either through early voting or on Election Day.
This election was also the first to utilize newly implemented security measures at Vote Centers. The Registrar’s Office introduced panic buttons at all voting locations as a precaution against potential disruptions or security concerns.
The Board of County Commissioners approved the certification of the canvass with a 3-1 vote. Commissioner Jeanne Herman cast a dissenting vote, Commissioner Mike Clark was absent from the meeting.
